The next big step in corporate sustainability

The statistics are clear – global biodiversity is declining, which poses risks for the ecosystem, affecting society as well as businesses. Regulators are well aware of the topic, which is why the EU is incorporating biodiversity in its Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and sustainable finance criteria. At the same time, the investor world is following suit, with standards such as Science-Based Targets for Nature and Task-Force for Nature-Related Financial Disclosures expected from 2023.

Biodiversity is going to be the “new hot topic” when it comes to corporate reporting and will be dealt with in the same extent as climate change. However, while the issue of climate is a maturing topic in corporate boardrooms, biodiversity is still poorly understood, and is, in fact, more complex.
