This year at Easter, environmentally conscious customers will be happy to hear that they have the possibility to buy the first approved CO2-neutrally packed Easter eggs in Austrian supermarkets.
Due to the latest denkstatt life cycle assessment (LCA) study for egg packaging, the smallest carbon footprint of all conventional packages sold currently are the ones from Ovotherm, which are derived from 100% recycled PET bottles.
Within the scope of this life-cycle assessment, the greenhouse gas emissions of Ovotherm packaging have been calculated. At the same time, analogue calculations for different other materials have been made. With regard to important questions of allocation, particularly concerning recycling benefits, the latest EU-standards for “product environmental footprint” have been applied. The results of this LCA study were reviewed and scientifically approved by three independent institutes.
2015 Ovotherm packaging has been awarded with the „Green Packaging Star Award“. This year Ovotherm takes a new step forward and launches the first carbon neutral packaging for Easter eggs in cooperation with HOFER KG. The greenhouse gases produced during the life cycle of the boxes have been compensated by purchasing emission reduction certificates from international acknowledged climate protection projects, which hold the Gold Standard. denkstatt conducted the whole project and was responsible for the scientific verification of the CO2-neutral standard. From now on, Ovotherm packaging for Easter eggs are allowed to carry the denkstatt-label „CO2-neutral package – approved by denkstatt GmbH“.
